NOTES: Alaskan winter and weather can be a trying combination. I once played a show in Fairbanks where a big outdoor thermometer read 55 degrees below zero ( -48.3 C) at 3:00 in the afternoon when it was already dark. Not surprisingly, some people aren't designed for it, and although they may love Alaska, they have to leave to stay sane. I'm not sure what that says about those of us who remain. St. Michael's is a beautiful Russian Orthodox church in Sitka, Alaska with icons that date back hundreds of years.

Drop-D tuning

Oil and wine, summertime all year
Tropical breezes, storms out of Africa always near
Way up North, the spring takes a long time to come
Long Arctic twilight, days turning slow beneath the midnight sun

So far away, we could never agree
We should have remembered, that islands are joined by the sea

So sail away, sail away,
Oh sail away...you to me

There's coffee and lemons, lunch at the Black Horse at one
Great-grandfather sleeping a hundred years beneath the midday sun
The bells of St. Michael's, a song for my long winter's night
The wind in the trees, the sand and the sea, and the northern lights

So much the same, but different we both know
One belong to the sunlight, the other belong to the snow

So sail away, sail away,
Oh sail away...you to me

So remember me, when you hear of the wind and the rain
And I'll think of you, with your toes in the sand, laughing again
We'll both drink our coffee, sunrise and sunset in one
Opposite people, opposite places, when it's said and done

So far away, we could never agree
It's too late to remember, that islands are joined by the sea

So sail away, sail away,
Oh sail away...you to me
